Yuni Kristina is a 2nd generation batik artisan hailing from Java. Her mother was her inspiration and mentor. Yuni and her mother still design together, producing many floral and bird motifs that are typical in Pekalongan batik. Yuni began practicing batik 23 years ago, having begun at age 13. Yuni states “I started experimenting with the technique when I was 13 years old, with mori textiles. Now I’ve learned to create different motifs and to work with other materials, such as silk.”
