Today’s featured artisan is Shanker, who hails from India. Shanker started as a farmer and trained with his family to become a farmer and take over their lands. It wasn’t until he found inspiration from his Uncle’s jewelry designs, that he decided to allow the creative juices to take over and began to work on his own designs. From here, Shanker left the farming trade and opened his own small workshop.
“I started designing and crafting sterling silver jewelry and slowly, with the help of family and friends, I was able to establish myself in the field. Initially, I had to face a lot of problems as people in my village like only gold, because it offers a return value. Silver is not popular.
With the help of his Uncle, Shanker went about establishing his own workshop and facility in the city. He spent many years honing his craft and studying the work of many artisans from across the region and beyond. He has participated in exhibits and enjoys showcasing his work to others. His greatest satisfaction comes from hearing about how happy his customers are with their wonderful, handcrafted jewelry that he has created.
