"Ruway Maki was formally established in Cajamarca on March 20, 2010, with about 20 members. All are enthusiastic,... skilled jewelry artisans who hope to make their art a source of income for members and their families.

"One of our most satisfying experiences was to present, win and carry out a project to strengthen Ruway Maki with a focus on sustainable development and training," members say.

"One of the greatest challenges we've faced was the fact that most of our partners had to move away from here because of labor disputes, family problems and an economic recession in our community. Although we haven't yet overcome this phase, we feel very proud that Ruway Maki has been able to continue crafting, thanks to the active participation of many partners despite the distance and new members.

"We plan to keep working more efficiently, our hope is to keep strengthening the group. We want Ruway Maki to be recognized locally and around the world as an association whose members work is creative and competitive. We want to be able to generate income and contribute to our families and communities.

"We work with silver and gold. We're inspired by the natural world that surrounds us, and by everyday life and fashion. We hope you like our creations."
