Thawatchai

"Hello, my name is Thawatchai. I was born in 1979 and I graduated from the Department of Design at Rajamangala Institute... of Technology in Chiang Mai. With a deep passion for Thai art, I have dedicated my studies to exploring various patterns and the rich history of Thai art across different eras. Thai art is often intertwined with Buddhism and renowned for its exquisite patterns, which can be found in temples adorning the walls through mediums like paintings, gilded lacquer works, and bas-reliefs. I often find myself captivated by their beauty, spending hours absorbing their intricate details.

"Chiang Mai, known for its abundance of temples, is a city that boasts an old town area surrounded by a grand moat. This historic town covers approximately 4 square kilometers and houses a total of 38 temples, including 5 abandoned ones. These temples were constructed by city governors, government officials, merchants, and the general public, some dating back hundreds of years. Each day, the diverse and fascinating beauty of these temples attracts numerous tourists. As a result, decorative items inspired by these temples have become popular souvenirs for visitors, adorning their homes and serving as reminders of the region's splendid culture.

"Inspired by this cultural richness, I conceived the idea of creating decorative wall paintings for sale to tourists, as well as for use in homes, restaurants, and various other spaces. Most of my paintings are bas-reliefs, delicately crafted by mixing paint with glue and embellished with gold leaf. The style of my artwork draws upon traditional Thai motifs associated with Buddhism, such as lotus flowers and Bodhi leaves, emanating a sense of tranquility and strength.

"I have dedicated 16 years to creating these unique works, and I plan to continue producing more while further developing diverse patterns that exemplify the essence of Thailand. My hope is to gain recognition and receive a positive response from Novica and customers. Thank you for your attention."
