Jorge Romero
"We artists create forms and figures that symbolize – or recreate – our social environment."
Jorge Romero Rodríguez was born April 23, 1960 in Lima. A self-taught artist, his love for art began when he was quite... young. "I'd play with shapes and colors to create a style of my own," he says.
Over the years, before dedicating himself exclusively to art, he worked creating stage sets for TV programs, decorated floats and painted large murals in recreational centers.
"Since 1974, I've worked as an artist and my work forms a part of collections in Peru and outside the country. Once, a painting of mine that depicted a family was presented at the altar at church because it was 'The Day of the Family,'" he reminisces.
Romero's work exhibits styles of all kinds. Currently, he works in figurative abstract and postmodernist styles. "I think that for all the time I've worked in a realist style, we should use the assistance of technology to create sketches more quickly, always respecting the road lined out by the great masters while bringing new ideas from our times.
"We artists create forms and figures that symbolize – or recreate – our social environment. Analysis in the creation of paradigms through painting, sculpture, performance, installations or video must push society toward new ways of perception.
"Rubens, Monet y Salvador Dali have been a source of inspiration and of learning for me."
Jorge Romero has participated in many exhibitions and contests. In "Pintando el Cerro San Cristóbal," he did not take first place but his work was acquired by the Ministry of Labor and was praised by the Peruvian President.
