"My work is about beautiful images that come forth from the wood."

"My full name is Alejandro Victor Ramirez Montalvo, and I was born on the first of November, 1976. I am from the... Montalvo Family, Novica featured artists. We are heirs to our family's wood carving legacy.

"In 2005 I opted for creating my own pieces and work on my own. I learnt to carve when I was younger, just like my brothers did, and I've always enjoyed working with my hands. I love the wood's natural grain.

"I studied at the Art School in town, and soon I had the opportunity to join my brothers in making a piece for our village's church. We rejoiced at the opportunity of doing something for our church, it represented a great challenge as well as an honor.

"I was later invited to Cuzco to teach a group of people and show them how marvelous this art form is. I ended up staying there for six years.

"My work is about beautiful images that come forth from the wood. I am motivated by the idea of one day becoming a great wood artist and have my work remembered forever. I try to transmit the patience and dedication one must have in order to do this kind of work.

"The biggest challenge I have faced is to finish school, start down the path of this great art, and allow people to come into my world, the sacrifices I had to make and the long wait before I was able to sell my first piece.

"To Novica clients I'd like to tell that whoever cultivates art lives in beauty. I craft every piece for you with my own hands, with love and attention. May God bless you!"
