Carlos Lopez Avila

"I describe my art as a style that is influenced by Cubist symbols, in which I fuse elements from our cultural history with contemporary themes."

"My name is Carlos Ávila López and I was born on 28 January 1971 in the region of Paita, Peru. I owe my passion for... painting to my mother, who always supported and encouraged me to cultivate this type of art from a very young age. I loved it when she's teach me about the different colors.

"In 1990 I decided to devote myself completely to my art, which in itself became one of the greatest challenges I've undertaken in my life. My brother Rodolfo López Ávila is a Novica featured artist and he was of great support to me too. He encouraged me to apply to Trujillo's Fine Arts School.

"I describe my art as a style that is influenced by Cubist symbols, in which I fuse elements from our cultural history with contemporary themes. My choice of colors also comes from personal inspiration.

"I began to exhibit my work in 1998 and I have stopped since. I have participated in several art competitions organized by different institutions and private companies, such as the French Embassy and the North American-Peruvian Cultural Institute, amongst others. I have also exhibited my work in Ecuador.

"I am very proud of the awards I have brought home, because they inspire me to continue and they make me very happy. Some of these awards include a Second Place in Piura (1999), and First Place in a mural art competition sponsored by the Moche Municipality (2001). I was also a selected artist for the VII Latin-American Hall of Painting in Huanuco (2003) and for the VIII Latin-American Hall of Painting in Ecuador (2004).

"Being fully dedicated to art and coming from a family of talented artists as well as having a formal instruction in art has made me feel stronger as an artist. It has also helped me achieve my greatest ambition, for my work responds to a personal chronology and a professional field. I ma thankful to Novica for offering me the opportunity to take my work to all the corners of the world."
