Ekta Malhotra

Designing new products for my pet collection is a fulfilling process, driven by the joy I find in creating items that enhance the lives of pets and their owners.

"Hi friends! I'm Ekta Malhotra from Delhi, India. My life has always been guided by compassion and positivity,... especially when it comes to my love for animals. This passion inspired me to create a unique pet collection that combines my interests in design and animal welfare.

"As an animal lover, I've always wanted to do something for pets. My husband is in the home furnishings business, and after I got married, I had the opportunity to try my luck at creating a pet collection. Leveraging my husband's existing infrastructure made my journey smoother. Through research, I identified a gap for soft, cotton-based pet products that prioritize comfort and safety, steering away from the harshness often found in synthetic materials. This helped me create a luxurious yet practical pet collection.

"A significant part of my mission in creating my own collection is to give back. I believe in using my work as a force for good. A percentage of our proceeds goes toward providing better care for underprivileged animals, particularly terminally ill dogs. This initiative not only supports animal welfare but also connects with customers who are passionate about making a difference. I want to create a community of pet lovers who feel empowered to contribute to a cause greater than themselves.

"In my journey of product development, I immersed myself in learning about various fabrics, stitching techniques, and the importance of durability. I primarily focus on cotton canvas, velvet, and jersey fabrics. These materials offer a soft touch, good hand-feel, and are gentle on pets' skin. By sourcing recycled materials where possible, I aim to minimize our environmental footprint. My commitment to quality is reflected in every piece I create, ensuring that each product is not just beautiful but also functional and safe.

"Designing new products for my pet collection is a fulfilling process, driven by the joy I find in creating items that enhance the lives of pets and their owners. However, the journey hasn't been without challenges. One significant hurdle has been sourcing fabrics that meet my high standards for durability and pet-friendliness. My own pet serves as my test subject—she has developed a clear preference for our cotton and velvet products, refusing to use anything synthetic. This experience reinforces my belief that pets deserve the best, motivating me to continue innovating in a market saturated with synthetic options.

"A vital aspect of my brand ethos is empowerment. I'm committed to working with a talented group of women who assist me in design and production. This collaboration not only enhances the creative process but also provides them with valuable employment opportunities. My goal is to transition to an all-female workforce, fostering an environment where women can thrive, be self-sufficient, and gain economic independence. This not only empowers individuals but also strengthens the community as a whole.

"Looking to the future, I envision expanding my product range significantly while maintaining our core values of quality and social impact. I plan to introduce educational campaigns aimed at raising awareness about the benefits of natural fabrics versus synthetics, helping consumers make informed choices for their pets. I also aspire to develop partnerships with shelters and rescue organizations, further amplifying our impact on animal welfare.

"With my pet as the motivation for creating my collection and my unwavering commitment to quality, community, and compassion, I am excited about the journey ahead with Novica. I am thankful to Novica for giving me the opportunity to celebrate my love for pets and work towards a brighter future for animals in need. Together, I believe we can create a pet collection that not only meets the needs of our furry companions but also makes a lasting difference in the world."
