Details

Wearing traditional clothing, a group of three Ghanaian musicians play the flute, drum, and ngoni stringed instrument in a performance. Says Dio of his painting, "their rhythm impregnates this work with infinite lines, symbols, and equations." He uses watercolor and ink alongside rulers to give this multicolored painting the appearance of mathematic and scientific schemata.

“I joined Novica In August 2008. In terms of progress, more works have been made. As for success, I am hoping for more sales as more works are listed and now things move faster with listing at Novica. At the moment my main goal is to make more sales because I want the best of life for my family and I believe it is possible with art.

“In terms of progress, several of my works have been sold to the world and this has given me some level of exposure. This positive exposure has succeeded in bringing more sales to my shop.

“Some challenges I face have to do with the time it takes me to complete a piece of work. My mathematical drawings, paper collages and fluid paintings take time to complete, even though it's worth it.

“I have a little studio in the corner of my room where I usually sit to express my creativity. I have always liked my studio to be within site, whether I am sleeping, eating, watching TV, etc. And that's where I have always been creating.

“I have expanded in scale by restocking new works every now and then thereby expanding my inventory. Even though I sell with other platforms, the sales I make from Novica are able to help take care of personal necessities.”

Original Artist Story

"I, Diogenis Papadopoulos, was born in Accra in 1985 to a Greek father and Ghanaian mother. I have a brother and two sisters. My artwork is a product of my intelligence and it grows from a lifetime of experiences, thoughts and emotions. No one can duplicate them exactly.

"I use acrylic paints, canvas, brushes, palette knife and watercolors for my artwork. I am inspired by the things I see, hear, or come across in books, magazines, papers etc., I feel motivated when I see other great works of art.

"The story of how I became a painter starts at about the age of 10 or 11 years. I liked watching movies at the cinema, and one day I came across a poster advertising a film. I liked it and wanted to have a copy of it, and I thought that the only way I could own a copy was to draw it. I felt the urge to try and I painted it several times but couldn't achieve any good results. I got so angry with myself, broke the pencil and tore the sketchpad. On my way home I met a friend who had a sketchpad of pencil drawings from film posters. I followed him home and gave it a try. My friend's house became my second home until I was good at sketching. After improving my sketching techniques, I went from one cinema to another drawing film posters of Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Rambo, etc. I kept practicing every day after school.

"After completing my basic education, I enrolled as a student at Ghanatta College of Art and Design and learned how to paint. That is how I became an artist. My skills have improved through constant practice. I have taught my craft to many people and continue doing so. Presently I teach senior high students pursuing art.

"I think Novica's mission of making it possible to sell my works to appreciators worldwide is the greatest idea that someone has ever come up with. Novica is indeed a home for great artists.

"To my Novica customers, your patronage will encourage me to come up with greater masterpieces to suit your passion, emotions and taste. My dreams and goals for the future are to become an icon in art who many artists of today and tomorrow, passionate lovers and admirers of art, will look upon as a mentor."

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

See buckle/tie belt size standards below.

Triple 'Win' Pricing

UNICEF Market offers triple win pricing, where YOU the consumer, Children from around the world, and Artisans all benefit.

WIN # 1 You Save!

Handmade goods from developing nations usually pass through a series of intermediaries before being purchased by retail consumers. Each of these intermediaries adds cost to the product, and that cost is passed on to the customer. UNICEF USA partnered with NOVICA, who works directly with artists through their regional offices in Asia, Africa and Latin America, allowing purchases from UNICEF Market to go directly from the artisans to fulfilling customer orders. By skipping steps in the traditional supply chain, you can buy high quality items for less than the regular retail prices.

WIN # 2 Children Benefit!

Each item purchased from UNICEF Market will benefit UNICEF's programs that provide lifesaving nutrition, medicine, education, clean water, emergency relief and more to children in need.

You can learn more about UNICEF's work, on About UNICEF.

WIN # 3 Artisans Profit!

UNICEF Market artisans set their own prices and control their own businesses. UNICEF Market offers artisans a free platform to sell their work throughout the United States.
