Top-quality leather is printed with a snakeskin motif in white and black over a deep rose base in this sophisticated sling bag designed and crafted by hand by Nicaraguan artisan Adelina Saldaña. The interior opens to a polyester lining and three pockets to keep things organized while the exterior features metal twist lock clasp closure and buckles. Delicately stitched with nylon yarn, the bag is elegant and also versatile as its removable strap allows you to wear it across the body or carry it in your hand.

Adelina Saldaña

" I was always motivated by my love for art, for my country and our customs. I have always liked to create and be active. So for me, leather work is a hobby I enjoy very much."

"I was born in 1954 in San Francisco, Nicaragua, where I grew up in a very large family — my dad, my mom and my 12... brothers and sister. A a very young age, I had to begin working, as my parents had limited resources and I wanted to help them out financially. We emigrated to the city of Chinandenga and, later, to the capital so we could attend the University. That took a lot of work and effort, but finally it was all worth it. I was able to become a professional woman and today I am a small entrepreneur.

"My interest in this beautiful art was born in my family. My great-aunt made utilitarian ceramics. It requires a lot of creativity to make them functional and not just decorative. My daughter Arlen started in the art world at the age of 15, working in ceramics, just like my great-aunt. I as there for my daughter throughout the process of becoming an artisan. I accompanied her to fairs, encouraged her in the production process and supported her financially. Upon retirement, I became even more involved in crafts, creating my own line inspired by my daughter.

"When I started exploring handicrafts, I looked for designs and gave them to my relatives. Little by little, I learned to make many kinds of items. I was always motivated by my love for art, for my country and our customs. I consider myself an honest, honorable, creative person and an art lover and I have always liked to create and be active. So for me, leather work is a hobby I enjoy very much. It is incredible how functional designs can be made with my hands through my own creativity.

"I began working with my daughter in 2020. We divide the tasks and we work very well together in a workshop in Masaya. Our specialty is leather products, which we craft with great dedication. And our greatest inspiration is the love of art, traditions, artisan peoples and our trajectory as a family and as artisans.

"Of course we always strive to create quality work, made with a lot of love. I've always liked all kinds of artistic expressions and, by supporting my daughter, I was entering the world of crafts, meeting people, artists and artisans. Now I can spend time creating my own designs and working more closely with other artists, like I did with my daughter."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
