A copse of spiraling, leafy branches are engraved into two teardrop pieces of pumpkin shell, featured in this pair of dangle earrings from Peru. Jose Luis Pariona designs the earrings, framing the pumpkin shell with high-polish sterling silver.

"After working with my uncle, I still hoped that one day I'd go back to crafting jewelry. I felt as though my heart was saying, 'Come on, Jose, you have to do this!'"

"I was born in 1981 in a small and beautiful village in the Junin department in Peru. It's a small but prosperous city... where people work in agriculture and handicrafts. I consider myself a modest, responsible and persevering man.

"I spent my childhood with my mom, who was both mother and father to me. She put a lot of effort, dedication and, most of all, love into raising me. We worked day and night to get ahead. While my mother looked after the house, I attended school and tried to learn useful skills. I went to live with my uncle when I was 11, as he needed help in his jewelry workshop. In exchange for helping him, he gave me money that I could send to my mother and I immediately accepted his kind offer.

"But life took me down different paths. I attended school as I was able to and, with the money available, I was able to specialize in mechanics. With my diploma in hand, I went to Lima to find work and look for a place to open a shop, but it was very difficult. After working with my uncle, I still hoped that one day I'd go back to crafting jewelry. I felt as though my heart was saying, 'Come on, Jose, you have to do this!'

"I promised myself that one day I'd finish what I started. I decided to give it a try, based on what I'd observed. I'm a self-taught jeweler and put a lot of effort, perseverance and dedication into my work ever since I was 14. I practiced a lot to improve my results by continuing to train and learning to overcome obstacles. I'm learning constantly. Taking specialized courses is very important to me because mastering an art requires a lot of work and sacrifice.

"What I enjoy most about my art is arriving at my workshop and letting my ideas flow... the combination of emotions when I'm creating my jewelry with my own hands using manual tools to give shape to my designs. I'm inspired by Peru's history and having been born in a country full of natural and cultural riches.

"“One of my dreams is to be recognized for my creativity, designs and quality. I’m happy to showcase my art and having the opportunity to grow."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
