Hand-loomed cotton in sunset orange hues is the medium of choice for artisan Om Prakash in creating this fun shoulder bag. The top of the front side features a panel of embroidery in teal, fuchsia and gold, accented with silvery mirrored sequins. The roomy handbag closes with a zipper, and features a handy zipper pocket in the fully-lined interior.

"I grew up amid my father's bright handicrafts. He was crafting colorful handbags and textile designs, and I would sit with him for hours enjoying the majestic color combinations."

"I was born and brought up in Gujarat, which is very flamboyant in terms of its culture and crafts. Every little craft... is marked by vibrant colors. The embroidery work or the bright patchwork bedding and wall hangings, sparkling handbags – all celebrate the colors and life of Gujarat. Even the cuisine of Gujarat is very popular worldwide and I would say it's colorful, too!

"I grew up amid my father's colorful handicrafts. He was crafting handbags and textile designs, and I would sit with him for hours enjoying the majestic color combinations and his expertise. Every day after school, I would sit with him and try and learn from him. He was very keen on my schooling first, before getting into the craft. The villages of Gujarat are so picturesque. It seemed like every family was involved in some craft or the other. Crafts are also a principal source of income. Especially, women at home were involved in embroidery and stitching. I remember when I was still young, I'd pester my father to take me to the exhibitions he attended. He took me a couple of times and I really enjoyed the colorful melas (fairs)!

"Slowly, when I was old enough, I got into the same craft as my father and started this wonderful journey into the world of handbags and accessories. I am a hard-working person, and I think I got this from my father. Later, when he learned that I could handle the family craft on my own, he'd send me to participate in exhibitions on my own. It was good feeling.

"My designs speak of the beautiful colors and culture of Gujarat. I love using rich colors in my products. Sparkling lace trims are also abundantly used. In the future, I would love to expand my workshop and my aim is to provide work for at least 100 craftspeople in my village. And I am sure that through Novica, I can very well achieve my goal or at least come close to my dream."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
