Working in the traditional ikat style, Indian artisan Sudha Rani dyes silk threads before carefully hand-weaving them to create this festive scarf. It features a bold indigo color with white geometric motifs that are created by the crafting process.

Sudha Rani

It’s such a great feeling to help these women earn their livelihood, and they in turn produce such amazing works of art.

“Hello, my name is Sudha Rani, from Hyderabad in the southern part of India. I was born in Visakhapatnam and did my... early schooling and college there. I did my schooling in Horticulture. In the latter part of my career I moved to Hyderabad. In the year 2005, I joined Oxfam where I took care of cotton textile supply chains. During this time, I interacted with several cotton farmers, which eventually got me more and more interested in the textile industry.

“After working in rural development for almost 20 years, in 2015, I started my own entrepreneurship where I work directly with the cotton farmers and the weavers in the district of Jangaon. Due to lack of proper infrastructure, after harvesting the cotton the cotton weavers would send the cotton to Maharastra to spin the yarns, while the weavers would buy those yarns to weave. So the cotton farmers sold for less, and the weavers bought for more. I wanted to bridge the gap, so I decided to help facilitate both parties. We purchased the cotton, processed it into yarns and the same yarns were given to the weavers, thereby cutting out the middlemen. The cotton farmers got more money for their cotton, and the weavers paid less for the yarn.

“Right now, we have a great support team--we do our designs with the help of our in-house designer. We work together and always share ideas and concepts before putting them into actual work. We also have people who take care of the production and quality of the products. We give our designs to the weavers, who work at their own convenience at their homes. At the moment we have about 100 weavers, all women who are associated with us. It’s such a great feeling to help these women earn their livelihood, and they in turn produce such amazing works of art. Each and every item is so beautiful and unique in its own way, it is so amazing.

“We also have a group of Banjara women who help in fine traditional embroidery works which are so unique in their design. I really hope and wish that one day we are able to spread to more and more villages and districts, and I hope our products will be loved and appreciated by everyone across the globe.”

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
