Crafted by hand from recycled wood, this jewelry box is presented by Peruvian duo Samantha and Ronald, who work together to create beautiful pieces like this one. Featuring a solid brown color, the jewelry box opens with a hinged lid to reveal a cotton velveteen lining in red. The interior features a removable tray with ten compartments for storing small pieces of jewelry, with larger rectangular compartments and a ring storage area on the bottom. The inside of the lid features an open pouch that rests below protruding hooks for necklaces and bracelets. The artisans name the jewelry box Paqari, a Quechua word with great significance, referring to the morning sunrise.

"This art attracts us to wood's flexibility as we transform discarded scraps into something beautiful and useful."

"We are Samantha Trujillo and Ronald Rivera from Lima. Samantha is the second of three children and studied computer... technology. As a child, she liked helping her mother crochet and sewing sequins on clothes.

"Ronald is the third of five children. He took his first job at a bicycle workshop when he was 17. As a child, he liked to take his toys apart and put them back together using his grandfather's tools. He then studied technology, electronics, computer repair, music, cooking and also studied at a university, but didn't conclude his systems engineering major. Finally, he took up woodworking.

"We've both had difficult moments. When his parents separated, Ronald's family's finances took a downturn, which forced him to work. Samantha suffered an illness that helped her value life and health, which we need to do accomplish things. To overcome these obstacles, it's good to remember the fun things and go forward with more strength.

"Once our paths crossed, we've been working together ever since. Ronald designs furniture in a carpentry shop. Because of this, our designs have a similar touch. Everything started when we found some wood scraps and made a little box for my niece to keep her hair clips. We were surprised by the result. To improve on the finish, Ronald studied fine furniture techniques and I took courses on decorative painting. We both continue practicing and perfecting our work. Often, we craft some of our own tools.

"We use natural wood, MDF, acrylic paint and varnish. It takes time to select and process reclaimed wood. This art attracts us to wood's flexibility, as we transform discarded scraps into something beautiful and useful. It's challenging to create something so small that requires precision in every detail.

"At the moment, we work by ourselves and are consolidating our workshop, which we hope will grow so our creations can be seen around the world."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
