Woven by hand, beautiful textiles attest to the skill of Naga women, a tribal people from northeastern India and parts of Burma. The weavings are incorporated in this lovely handbag from Chirada. Brown leather forms the adjustable strap and adorns each side, while a button safeguards the zip top closure. Inside, the shoulder bag is lined in brown faux suede fabric and features two inner pockets. Tiny bells adorn the clasp in front.

Because each bag is a handmade work of art, the colors and motifs will vary slightly but the theme remains the same.

"Hello! My name is Chirada Loetparisanyu. I was born on April 7, 1973. My hometown is in Chonburi province, but I moved... to Chiang Mai because my brother was studying there, and my parents wanted me to take care of him. We're only two siblings and I'm the eldest. My parents worked in agriculture before turning to handicrafts. They opened a workshop in Chiang Mai, which I look after, and now they have another one in Bangkok.

"I graduated from Kasetsart University with a degree in Agriculture in 1996. I have always been interested in handicrafts that are made from natural materials, so I observed and learned from magazines, books, television programs and everything around me. I started with textiles and, by 2000, I was transforming textiles into clothes and dresses. By late 2005 and the beginning of 2006, I was tooling leather handbags, which appealed to many people. I then explored the possibility of including hill tribe cotton textiles into my designs, which continued to feature quality leather.

"All of my designs are about our Thai lifestyle. I adapt local styles with modern trends. I am very glad that many people like my work and I am constantly working towards improving the quality of my work in order to reach international standards.

"My goal for the future is to be happy with my life and create new products such as notebooks, shoes and shawls.

"The most important thing in my life is that I can take care of my parents when they get old, as well as to continue designing and creating bags that people around the world would like.

"My work starts with something I like, and I develop the design from there based on my own imagination as well as what I see around me. I also welcome people's opinions on my designs so I can improve. I am a person who always likes to do everything, better and better. If I feel something isn't good enough, I don't give up. I will always try my best until I achieve what I want.

"I hope people will like my work, and I want people in another countries to know more about Thai handicrafts. I think you are not only about selling art work, but also showing the charm of culture."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
