"Nature and people have been my greatest sources of inspiration," the late artist Fernando Llort once said. "An... interplay of organic shapes, textures and cheerful colors can be seen in this collection. Here, we also try to transmit an analogy between the behavior of nature as a living organism, interconnected, able to generate life and in constant transformation with the human being throughout the different stages and dimensions of life. The art of Fernando Llort is inspired by scenes of El Salvador's countryside, by our roots, by our people… in short, in the admirable creation of God."

He was born in 1949 in San Salvador, the third of six children. He studied in the Liceo Salvadoreño, then decided to take art courses in France and the U.S. Finally he received a degree in theology in Belgium.

In 1973, he returned to El Salvador and settled in La Palma, where he founded many social and personal development centers and taught art to many Salvadorans. Many artisans got their start in these classes and continue Llort's legacy today. As a result, the President's Minister of Culture awarded Fernando the National Cultural Award in 2103.

The renowned painter Fernando Llort passed away at the age of 69.

"It was always my desire to help as much as possible with my paintings and motivate our people to awaken to our roots and seek an expression of our own. I always felt a deep and vital need to rediscover our local culture. This would let us place ourselves — and would place us — as Salvadorans in a Latin American context.

"I want my work to invite us to see things with a magical vision, like the eyes, the heart, or a child, or the innocence of a rural family without prejudices or preconceived schemes," he said.

Fernando's sister, Margarita Llort, has worked with art glass since 1984. During this time, she has constantly perfected her art with courses in the U.S. and in Barcelona. She has now formed a team of first class artisans. Her genius and creativity has let her innovate with her work, creating beautiful designs for art and decoration. She and her team work hard to create unique pieces using art glass, wood and iron. They recreate the designs of Fernando Llort with scenes inspired by the Salvadoran countryside, by our people, our roots and by God's creations.

"The art glass designs are crafted entirely by hand in our workshop with eco-friendly materials. We put a new value on leftovers and waste from other processes and convert them into something of equal or greater value. With the purchase of our work, you are supporting the Fernando Llort Foundation and the Salvanatura Foundation. You are collaborating in the promotion of our culture and art as well as with conservation and environmental protection projects in El Salvador.

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
