Details

Javier Landa in Ayacucho, Peru creates this incredible original tapestry. Working on a 2-pedal loom with alpaca-blend yarns, he weaves an abstract collage of Andean motifs, including a condor, a puma and a serpent. The three sacred creatures are known as the Inca trilogy, as they represent (respectively) the heavens, the earthly realm and the underworld. The artisan uses a technique called arwi, from a Quechua word meaning "to entangle", to add rich textural accents throughout the piece. The tapestry's rich jewel-toned palette makes it a fabulous addition to any space.

"I love weaving — it's my passion that comes from the bottom of my heart and makes me the person I am."

"I was born in 1976 in the province of Ayacucho, a land of artisans and of great history and culture. I consider myself... a very hardworking, responsible man, and I'm proud to represent my country's textile arts.

"From a very young age, I found myself amidst of colors and yarns. My father was a great artisan of traditional weaving from Ayacucho, and my mother a weaver of blankets and blankets. At the age of 12, I learned to weave by family tradition and, when I was 19, I began to work for the workshop of the top representative of Ayacucho textiles. There I learned new techniques and advanced work.

"I then worked in many workshops where I learned and obtained the necessary knowledge to later open my own workshop where I could give freedom to my style. There was an escalation in my craft career, because I started with Ayacucho-style textiles and then learned more advanced works with more complex techniques. I love weaving — it's my passion that comes from the bottom of my heart and makes me the person I am.

"My art is nourished by the traditional ritual symbols and experiences of Peruvian cultures. These experiences inspire me to discover and explore contemporary visual arts. What I like most about my art is being able to capture and convey the feeling of my heart and my origins, which is the result of the history of Peru and a creative process.

"Having my own workshop is not only inspiring for me, but also encourages young people to learn about textile art and maintain the traditions of weaving, to preserve and promote it. One of my dreams is to be able to go very with my works and to represent Peru with my art."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
