By Ghanaian artist Cecilia Adedunmola Adeniran, this cotton wall hanging tells the story of Queen Adeola, who fell in love with a stranger from a faraway land. Against a red background, Queen Adeola is depicted along with two other faces. This wall hanging is decorated using the batik method, where a wax resist is hand-painted onto the fabric before being dyed with different colors. It is named Olori, meaning "queen" in Yoruba.

"My art puts smiles on people's faces and I've been able to encourage others to believe in themselves."

"I'm Cecilia Adedunmola Adeniran and I was born Nigeria. I create paintings and batik patterns. My friends describe me... as hardworking, creative and disciplined.

"I was born into an artistic family. My dad paints and creates fabric designs. As a child, I was curious about painting and asked my father lots of questions. I started practicing by drawing cartoon characters and painting them. I also practiced dyeing fabric.

"I love vibrant colors, which is what attracted me to painting. My father taught me, but I also learned in school. Since then, I have taught others and organized workshops for children and church members.

"I had to learn more to master this craft. I experimented and researched a lot after meeting people from different backgrounds for more ideas to bring to my art. I use a pallet, brushes, canvas and oil paint.

"My favorite part about painting is creating something unique. I don't like to copy anybody. I'm inspired by God, and also by the colors and objects around me. Working on my own hasn't been easy. I didn't have money or a place to work. My art puts smiles on people's faces and I've been able to encourage others to believe in themselves.

"During a difficult period in my life, I had to raise money for school by selling my artwork and also began making crafts to sell.

"Once, when I had to work all day and all night on a project, the client told me it wasn't what he wanted. I asked myself why I didn't sleep more and spend less time working. Now, when people see my work, they say they love it.

"My hopes are to further my education and earn a degree. I hope to establish a gallery to exhibit my work and support young artists. I dream of being able to help the poor and less privileged, like widows and orphans, by organizing workshops so they can learn to earn a living."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
