Details

Momox and Murillo select a warm palette of colors for the design of this pitcher. In brown, red, orange and yellow, the pitcher is expertly crafted by hand in the renowned handblown glass techniques of Mexico.

Because each piece is handmade, shape and size can vary slightly and tiny bubbles may appear within the glass. This exemplifies the hand-blown technique, making every piece a unique example of blown glass craftsmanship.

Subtle scratches may be present as residue from cleaning the glass.

Meet the Artist

Meet the Artist

Momox

"We both have had to make personal sacrifices, but we have taken on the challenge of balancing our work and the development of our venture with our dedication to our respective families."

"I'm Salvador Momox, from the state of Coahuila, and moved to Jalisco to study engineering with a specialization in... quality. After some time I visited Salvador Murillo's glass workshop and I was immediately taken by the shapes and colors of what I saw there. I left with a desire to learn more.

"I returned with an offer to form a partnership and we started with a shop, selling the work of a man who had a glass workshop. We weren't crafting anything yet.

"After a while our friend, the owner of the glass workshop, passed away and the workshop had to close down. Since our venture was growing we thought we could keep the workshop going and in February 2013 we took the plunge – with our savings and some loans – and became blown glass producers.

"We encountered several challenges at first, due to the high costs. We both have had to make personal sacrifices, but we have taken on the challenge of balancing our work and the development of our venture with our dedication to our respective families.

"It has been gratifying for us knowing we didn't give up, we continue to forge ahead, and that our customers are visibly pleased with our work.

"I'm in charge of the blown glass process and logistics as well as accounting and dealing with suppliers as well as customers. Murillo is in charge of the workshop, retail sales, and the forged iron lamps we also specialize in. He is quite knowledgeable about these lamps, because that's what his parents used to do. However this is an art you're constantly learning from.

"Despite some difficulties and our lack of experience, the people in our team placed their trust in our capabilities and together we have made this venture grow. People wishing to join our team must be driven by a desire to develop professionally, and though we already have a good team we're hoping to evolve so we can offer more jobs to the community.

"Our main material is recycled glass, properly washed and cleaned before melting. We prepare most of our colors, and some we purchase. The most intricate part of our process is finding the right point for melting the glass as well as finding the right color combination for our designs.

"When we create our products we want to make sure that people can perceive the handcrafted, top quality, artistry within each piece. We always aim to create designs that are modern and new, with the vibrant colors that distinguish Mexican artesanias.

"As an association we are concerned with each member's progress, offering the best salaries. We are genuinely interested in each person's private life too and try to support them the best way possible. We have also offered work to older people who are living with arthritis or Parkinson disease because we strongly believe in offering a fair chance to everyone.

"We aim to keep on growing and be recognized world wide. We'd love to see our products in more places, becoming a top quality representative of Mexican handcrafted products."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

See buckle/tie belt size standards below.

Triple 'Win' Pricing

UNICEF Market offers triple win pricing, where YOU the consumer, Children from around the world, and Artisans all benefit.

WIN # 1 You Save!

Handmade goods from developing nations usually pass through a series of intermediaries before being purchased by retail consumers. Each of these intermediaries adds cost to the product, and that cost is passed on to the customer. UNICEF USA partnered with NOVICA, who works directly with artists through their regional offices in Asia, Africa and Latin America, allowing purchases from UNICEF Market to go directly from the artisans to fulfilling customer orders. By skipping steps in the traditional supply chain, you can buy high quality items for less than the regular retail prices.

WIN # 2 Children Benefit!

Each item purchased from UNICEF Market will benefit UNICEF's programs that provide lifesaving nutrition, medicine, education, clean water, emergency relief and more to children in need.

You can learn more about UNICEF's work, on About UNICEF.

WIN # 3 Artisans Profit!

UNICEF Market artisans set their own prices and control their own businesses. UNICEF Market offers artisans a free platform to sell their work throughout the United States.
