Depicting ornate tendrils in crimson arabesques, Saktut Raitawati designs a comfortable cotton robe with floral motifs. Bali's traditional batik technique is used to create them. Classic front-wrap styling, wide kimono style sleeves and a matching tie belt combine for graceful line.

This handpainted batik robe is a truly original work of art. Sunlight, water, dye and temperature all factor into the look of the finished robe. This should be considered a unique design made especially for you. Colors and pattern placement will vary.

"Didn?t like. Fabric stiff"

Could be a problem in the actual sewing pattern in combination with this crisp Fabric.... I?m not sure ....but this robe/kimono missed for me. So I?m Returning It. It might be good for some who craves that raw cotton feel. I found the hand a bit stiff. For me, the kimono sleeves didn?t fall right. Maybe the sleeves are just too short? Dunno. Pretty fabric design though, and a rich beautiful color.

"I'm Desak Ketut Raitawati, or 'Saktut.' I was born in Bali where my father was a farmer and my mother sold fruit in the... market. I'm the youngest of children, and we lived a very simple life during my childhood.

"At the age of 16, I started working after school in a clothing shop to lift a bit of weight from my parents. The toughest time in my life was in my school days, when my parents could not pay my tuition. This is why I decided to get a job, and this experience really helped me throughout my life. Later, I went on to graduate from a local hospitality school.

"For many years, I worked in other people's clothing shops and I gained a lot of experience. I met talented tailors and batik artists and they made me see it was possible to work designing clothes on my own, although I still had doubts in myself. Through friends, I met a woman who taught me all about textiles. She has continued to support my work and also raised my confidence to start out on my own.

"Now I make a variety of clothing with batik designs on rayon and cotton. For the coloring, I mainly use dyes that are environmentally friendly. Our team is mostly women, whom I want to support so that they can also support their children.

"Friends describe me as optimistic, a fighter, and a diligent person. I am most at peace when I succeed in any of my life challenges. Even on my busiest days, I always make time for exercise as it is one of my hobbies. I am married, and we have been blessed with three boys. My feelings of motherhood are pure happiness and this motivates me to give my very best so my children can get a higher education and the best life possible.

"You have made it possible for me to sell my designs throughout the world without opening a shop. This makes me so proud and happy. My children will all be able to go to the university so that they will have many choices in life."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
