"I was born in Teotitlán del Valle, renowned for the Zapotec rugs, and so like other kids my age, my parents taught how... to weave when I was only a little girl. I used to watch them at work, how they prepared the dyes, carded the wool, etc.
"In my family we all feel very proud to be weavers, it is an art form that my parents inherited from their parents, and then they taught us. My brothers work together, you know them in Novica as the Ruiz Bazan Family.
"I began weaving fulltime when I got married, for my husband is also dedicated to arts and crafts. I still recall the first rug I ever wove, it was a sample and I called it 'Oaxaca Flower.' Now I can proudly say I have my own workshop where I work on my own designs and only weave them on a pedal loom.

Those were difficult times and I wasn't sure I'd be able to pull through, and now I can honestly say it was all worth the effort and hard work.
