"In fact, back at school I used to be very shy, but through my paintings the others kids my age got to know me and I became popular… especially with the girls!"

"I was born and raised in the department of Apurimac, where my parents where artisans. When I finished high school I... moved to Lima to study art, first at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos, and then at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, where I received the silver medal for second place in 1990.

"That same year I decided to become a professional artist and exhibit my work for others to see. In fact, back at school I used to be very shy, but through my paintings the others kids my age got to know me and I became popular… especially with the girls!

"Back then I had another hobby, which was making my own toys, kites, cars, etc. I still make them, but these ones are for my own children.

"My style of painting is free of '-isms.' In other words, absolute freedom rules in every sense of the word: from the materials (oils, acrylics, mixed media) and techniques, to the themes. I don't fit into a specific style, even when I do something that is figurative I'll add other creative details which the viewer appreciates through a second glance.

"The motivation behind my art is manifold — it comes from a need to communicate, to show beauty through painting and I cannot deny the chromatic or commercial motivation that nowadays pervades the world of art such as consumer objects. What better way to do it as a way of life through something you enjoy doing?

"I try to convey my feelings, my vision of life and of the world through my paintings, and if I paint with sincerity I believe I will have achieved my objective. Art, to me, is an aesthetic means of expression that is sublime and pure.

"I have exhibited my work collectively and individually in Peru as well as in Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Panama, Costa Rica, Canada, Austria and Brazil. Exhibiting internationally is a great source of pride, but it is also challenging because it takes me away from my family, sometimes for long periods of time.

"Shoppers are the best judges of one's work, so I invite you to check out Novica, as you will find many options. That said, I would like to thank you through this medium."
