Nueng Pakdee

Nueng Pakdee

"When we made it to shore I was so happy to have made it alive! I finally confessed to my friends I couldn't swim. This taught me an important lesson, that I should value life more."

"I am Patarapong Pakdee, but everyone calls me Nueng for short. Born on September 1, 1976, I am the eldest of two... brothers. My brother is away studying in Bangkok, and my father passed away in 2007, so no there's only mother and me at home. However, I have not always lived at home. I love traveling and spent a good time trekking through the Thai provinces and abroad. As a family, we love each other dearly, but we also respect each other's space. In that sense, we're different from traditional Thai families.

"I would describe myself as having two marked personality traits, one that is adventurous, and one that loves peace and quiet. When I was younger I was constantly seeking adventure, living day by day not thinking about the future. For example, I once went rafting with friends, but I never told them I couldn't swim. When we came upon a level three waterfall I knew I shouldn't risk it because I couldn't swim, but I went for it nonetheless. When we made it to shore I was so happy to have made it alive! I finally confessed to my friends I couldn't swim. This taught me an important lesson, that I should value life more.

"I consider myself to be very fortunate because I have lived life to the most, and now I believe it's time for me to settle and lead a calmer way of life, and think about the future. However, I do miss that sense of adventure that propelled me into amazing situations and took me traveling to wonderful places. I feel lucky for the experiences I have had, but when I was younger I wasn't valuing life and took too many risks. I enjoyed trekking, being by the sea, being caught in a storm and feeling the heat of the day, as well as experiencing being cold, and getting soaked in the rain.

"I am very proud of our customs, and it so happens to that my wife is a traditional Thai dancer. She studied and prepared well, and eventually hopes to be able to teach our traditional dances to the younger generations, so they may preserve this art form.

"My motto is to keep walking, keep strong and enjoy the support of those around me. My life is so full now: I am married, I have a job, and during my free time I am fortunate enough to do what I really love, leather jewelry.

"The reason why I chose to do leather bracelet comes from my love of leather. When I first saw this type of work, I thought to myself that I should learn and be able to do it just as well as those whom I admire.

"My inspiration comes from my experience traveling. I have seen many and different life styles and culture. I apply all my experience when I design my leather collections. I pay attention to every step of my work, and as for quality, it must comply with the strictest judge: myself.

"Designing and tooling leather bracelets is almost like giving birth to my own children, so when people like them, I feel very proud. People's opinions of my work encourage me to go on. No matter what happens, I remain true to my work.

"I welcome everyone to visit my children (ie, my products) on Novica's website. I appreciate the opportunity to present my designs to the world."
