Sessarego

"My work is the product of a child's love for drawing and a talent for handcrafts and painting, mixed with my enjoyment of opera, which I constantly listen to and see in the theater."

"This art is like a door that opens to what is within me. I'm Gino Sessarego Díaz, born 20 February 1982. I'm the first... in my family to explore the world of art. My parents are fishing engineers, but they've always supported by interest in art. When I was four year old, I was drawing and painting with watercolors, and I also enjoyed making toys with whatever materials I could find.

"For my 12th birthday, my parents gave me a set of oil paints, which was one of the greatest gifts I've ever received. Painting with oils for the first time was a new experience that I felt even in my veins. It marked my destiny as I knew then, at age 12, that all I wanted to do was to paint. I enrolled in Peru's School of Fine Arts and I'll be graduating in December 2007.

"My art is intuitive, spontaneous and expressive. The passion I feel for painting and the opera inspire my work, which I see as the fruit of both artistic manifestations. Every line in my paintings carries with it a symphony of colors, the perfect accompaniment to the melodies of art.

"My work is the product of a child's love for painting and a talent for handcrafts and painting, mixed with my enjoyment of opera, which I constantly listen to and see in the theater.

"I would describe my work as a lyrical abstraction that allows me to express the emotions that identify me. At first, before starting at the School of Fine Arts and even during the first terms, I never would have imagined that I would have developed an abstract language, because I was more concerned with complex realism.

"As an artist in Peru, the greatest challenges that I've had to face are the difficulties and lack of support for the fine arts.

"I want to express my need to find what links music and painting, which share an abstract nature. That's why I paint from intuition and with emotion, so that I may bring happiness and harmony to every setting that hosts my work."
