Jenny Chua

"I actively scuba dive, and I also look for little-known mountains to climb in different parts of the world. At these depths and heights, hidden beauties present themselves."

"I was born 7 August 1984, my friends call me Jenny and you're welcome to do so. Ever since I can remember, I've... appreciated all types of art. My father photographed as a hobby and I delved into his photos of nature. My aunt's advice encouraged me to take up photography formally with a great professor and philosopher in my native Philippines. As a scuba diver, I completed an underwater photography course with PADI and hold a license.

"I actively scuba dive, and I also look for little-known mountains to climb in different parts of the world. At these depths and heights, hidden beauties present themselves. Photographing nature's amazing beauty has come instinctively to me. Using light and speed, I aim to capture the essence of a place at its most beautiful, to share with the world and to inspire you to explore.

"My goal to explore the world lead me to settle for a while in Peru, for many reasons: to learn a new language, the opportunity to work in travel, to see the Inca ruins, to go to somewhere I haven't been, to experience culture shock. Since being here, I have been surprised by the abundance of open and amazing people, the even more interesting pre-Inca culture, the hundreds of ruins littered and unexplored. From here, I travel onwards where life wills. Novica acts as my door to you, so I can always share my images wherever I may take them from.

"As I travel, my most treasured remembrances of a place become the photographs where I was able to capture emotion, a meaningful moment, a defining character.

"During my time in Peru, my works of Venezuela, Ecuador, and Colombia have been published in RUMBOS, the country's leading travel magazine. Two of my winning works for La Vida Citadina contest at Citadino have been exhibited in Bohemia. I won the Tatoo outdoor photography contest, among other South American photographers, for my photo of a dear friend as we were hiking below an arch of an ancient fortress. My latest piece is to be included in the National Museum's exhibition of 'Noche de Arte,' among other great national painters and sculptors.

"My challenge is to keep on growing as a photographer, using my drawings of light to make people realize the beauty before them. I feel great pride when someone looks at my photos with awe. It's then that I've successfully communicated that every corner offers something beautiful, even in your own backyard.

"I believe everyone can create art, which in turn empowers others but not everyone has the means to do so. A portion of my photo sales will go to the education of children via UNICEF. It takes so little to provide teachers with the basic tools to teach a whole class. School is our second home where we start to create art and develop it.

"To Novica supporters, if one of my photos goes on your wall, I hope you feel lightness and happiness every time you glance upon it and remember the positive message that comes with it."
