Zoila Olaechea

“We never finish learning about knitting; we are always developing stitches, textures, blends."

“My name is Zoila Olaechea; I was born in 1960 in the city of Lima. I consider myself an empathetic, honest and... persevering woman.

“I always liked hand knitting--I remember a trip to Cusco and seeing women knitting in the streets with indescribable speed; and how they dyed their wool with seeds, leaves and flowers. This caught my attention, and soon I returned again to get a little more involved in this art. I already had knowledge of knitting since my childhood; this would be the reason why I was so attracted to this art.

“I learned knitting from an aunt. I remember that she liked to knit sweaters by hand with very thin wool; for her, knitting was a hobby. I remember that at approximately 7 years old she taught me to knit the most basic things, like a red scarf. I was fascinated by how she could make a garment with 2 sticks, a ball of wool and a lot of love. That was my mentor, a woman full of love for the art of knitting.

“Without a doubt I had to go through many difficult moments. Betting on your own dreams is not always easy, and you often wonder if you made the best decision. Now after several years I am glad I did it. Being persistent has helped me a lot to achieve my personal project, which began with an idea; a dream; a sketch. To translate that into a garment and have each objective, each project achieved for me—I am full of pride in knowing that I can do more. And above all to recognize that success is not only personal, but of the entire group that accompanies me and trusts me.

“The main challenge of freelancing was breaking away from my previous job after 20 years. I worked for a highly recognized textile company in the United States and Europe. I learned a lot from them and I will always be grateful, but I had to face my own challenges. To achieve them I had to constantly strive so that each garment, design, color, etc. fulfilled the expectations of my clients.

“In each garment developed we deliver hours of work. I offer my clients quality products; not only a fashionable garment, but also to give them all the feeling and dedication that we put into our products, and also to share the satisfaction of our clients with the whole group that we work with. They are the backbone of my projects.

“Our growth plans are still in development. I have more goals which I will gradually reach and share. Each project or objective achieved shows me that I am on the right path. Each project is like a dream, and it is not always easy to realize it; the challenge of making it happen is what strengthens us as a group.

“We never finish learning about knitting; we are always developing stitches, textures, blends. In this art we integrate creativity with technology, which we have to implement and adapt to our projects. Our inspiration has varied since 2020; we look for comfortable, practical, versatile garments, easy to wear in this current world. We will surely continue to change according to new trends and adapt while creating new designs.

“I am very excited to be able to reach more people with my products and proposal. Thank you for opening the doors for me and showing my passion.”
