"It took hard work and dedication to master this craft, but it helps that I love what I do… I really love the uniqueness I can bring to our ancestral instruments."

"I was born in 1976 in the Northern Region of Ghana. My friends describe me as a hardworking, honest and perseverant... person.

"When I completed school, I couldn't find a job. I had ideas to start a business of my own and sought help from companies, banks and others but no one was available to help. So I began saving little by little. Eventually, I was able to get a place to set up a workshop.

"I love our traditional music and handicrafts. I decided to learn to craft our different kinds of West African instruments and use wood, dried calabash gourds, leather, straw and iron. In my work, uniqueness and meaningful designs are important to me.

"It took hard work and dedication to master this craft, but it helps that I love what I do. Working with calabash is especially challenging, since it can break very easily. But I really love the uniqueness I can bring to our ancestral instruments.

"Today, I'm teaching this art to both men and women who work with me. The income from jobs my workshop benefits the entire community by doing a bit to reduce poverty.

"I dream of offering my designs worldwide and want them to be some of the best there are anywhere."
