Oluwayemisi Adeniran

"When I was a child, I enjoyed art and learned my craft from my parents. I, too, have taught others."

"My name is Oluwayemisi Adeniran and I was born in Nigeria in 1963. I create batik wall hangings. My friends describe me... as an easy-going, gentle and creative woman.

"I became interested in this craft because my parents are artists. When I was a child, I enjoyed art and learned my craft from my parents. I, too, have taught others. I had to experiment a lot to master this craft, but I especially love bringing my creativity to life. When people like my work and buy it, this is a great inspiration, which makes me want to create more.

"Starting on my own wasn't easy, but I've come this far with God's grace. A difficult time for me was when I attended university and didn't have enough money.

"I use dyes, wax and cloth, and I work with the help of a few family members. One day, I hope to open a textile school to teach people and also open a gallery to showcase my works. My dream is for my textiles to become known around the world."
