Woven on a traditional handloom by Vankar Parbat of India, this throw blanket evokes the colors of a sunset--the rich teals, oranges, and maroons of the sky together with the whiteness of clouds--to create magnificent mirroring floral images, accented by a diamond in the middle. "During my earlier days as a weaver, I struggled a bit but I knew good times would come and I never gave up. Even when going through bad times, I would find joy in my beautiful shawls."

"I come from a big family of nine siblings. My father started this craft in our family, creating shawls, throws and... quilts using natural fibers. I have been fortunate to inherit our family tradition – one of the rich crafts of Gujarat. My father taught me the art of weaving and later, together with him, I developed new and more colorful works for our changing times.

"I belong to Bhuj in Kutch district, a small town with a rich cultural history. At least 80 percent of Gujarat's handicrafts are based in Kutch and most of the state's renowned embroidery work is also based in this district. In olden times, all this craft work was done as a tradition, a way of life. But now, it has also become a business. When I was a boy, I saw these beautiful works of art and always wanted to do something big in this field.

"During my earlier days as a weaver, I struggled a bit but I knew good times would come and I never gave up. Even when going through bad times, I would find joy in my beautiful shawls. I have lots of favorite shawls, but one of the best I have done is still with me. It took me almost two months to complete that piece and I want to treasure it throughout my life. It is a priceless piece for me.

"Tie dying is also popular in Kutch and we also do this work.

"In 1987, we participated for the first time in Suraj Kunj Mela and the response was great. Before that, my father had never been out of our town. It was a great change for our entire family.

"In 1991, Pujya Pramukh Swami Maharaj, the fifth spiritual successor of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and the present leader of Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, took me to the U.S. for a two-month long cultural festival. There, I demonstrated pit loom weaving, and this was a wonderful experience.

In 1994, I was honored with President's award for woven shawls and have shown my work in the U.S., Russia, Dubai, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Singapore.

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
