City lights line the horizon as the burning sky finds its reflection in Paranoá Lake. "Brasilia is a contemporary city," says João Paulo Barbosa referring to his birthplace. "Designed by Oscar Niemeyer, it values architectural traits and horizontal aesthetics. Dom Bosco's vision of a capital for all Brazilians, 'home to the civilization of the future,' is still current."

Featuring a white border, the photograph is printed on Crystal Archive Fuji paper.

"My motivation as a photographer always remains the same, to share that which is beautiful and unusual."

"When I was 10 years old my parents gave me a camera, thus awakening in me a passion for photography. We were living in... Paris at the time and traveled to neighboring countries. I was such a curious child, that I soon became the official family photographer. Places, museums, books and natural landscapes taught me to appreciate the inherent beauty of things, thus fostering my artistic side.

"My family has always encouraged my development as an artist. My father works in chemistry and is an avid photographer, my maternal grandmother is a ceramist and my godmother is an artist – that's the environment I grew up in. Years later, after experimenting with design, ceramics and painting, my mother became a jewelry designer.

"When I was 20 years old I traveled to Patagonia, where I took many pictures. My friends were impressed and encouraged me to take up photography. I was studying history in Brasilia and enrolled in specialized photography courses on my own. Two years later, the city's main newspaper printed the photographs I took of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Eventually I moved to Rio de Janeiro, seeking to improve by studying with renowned Brazilian photographers. Since then my photos have been published in magazines, journals, books and catalogues.

"I've participated in more than 20 exhibitions, collective and individual, throughout the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe. Amongst the most important ones are a collective at the American Indian Museum (Washington, D.C) and an individual in Bentara Budaya Jakarta (Indonesia).

"My motivation as a photographer always remains the same, to share that which is beautiful and unusual. I believe the essence of art to be the creation of a unique representation of something in particular, and share it with everyone.

"As a photographer I am happy with what I have achieved so far, because its amazing to me to see my work crossing borders and being appreciated in different countries.

"I feel privileged to work with Novica because I see with them the opportunity to expand my horizons and promote my work even more. I have always been fond of traveling, and now with Novica my photos get to travel without me."

FINDING YOUR SIZE

Take your measurements with the tape measure over your under garments. If your measurements fall between sizes you may prefer the next larger size. Inseam, skirt and dress lengths vary by style and will be listed in the item description. Our sweaters are knit in standard American sizes, however actual measurements vary by style.

BUST / CHEST

Measure around the fullest part of chest under the arms and over the shoulder blades keeping the tape measure level.

WAIST

Measure around the smallest part of the waist keeping the tape measure comfortably loose. Most garments use the low waist measurement noted below.

LOW WAIST

Measure around the body approximately 1.5" below the natural waist (above). This is the area where most pants and skirts actually fit.

HIPS

Standing with your heels together, measure around the fullest part of the body approx 7"-8" below the waist.

NECK

Measure around the base of the neck keeping the tape measure comfortably loose.

SLEEVE

Bend elbow slightly and starting at the center back of the neck, measure across the shoulder, to the elbow and down to the wrist.

INSEAM

Our standard inseam length for women is 32" and 34" for men; however inseam measurements will vary slightly by style.

 

Belts with buckles are measured in inches that correspond to a waist size however, most people do not wear belts on the waist, they wear them closer to the hips. A buckle belt measurement is take from the end of the "pin" of the buckle to the middle hole on the belt. Generally there are 5 holes for size adjustment, with a 1" space between each, so the middle hole will the be average size of the belt.

For at tie belt (no buckle) measure the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This again is the medium size of the belt.

For a soft fabric tie belt it can be called "1 size fits most" and the entire length of the belt should be measured and listed.

Sash tie length

Lay sash/tie out flat away from the garment and measure from end to end.

Belt with buckle

Measure from the end of the pin of the buckle (where it touches the buckle) to the middle hole.

Belt without buckle

Measure from the belt portion end to end and half of the tie portion. This is will give you the medium size of the belt.
